Get to Work!

Tyrol has been a multilingual country since the late Middle Ages. Contact between the German- and Italian-speaking areas is intensive, and the cultural and linguistic differences reflect the diversity of the country. In the 19th century, political and economic changes lead to an increased migration movement. Many Trentino people move to the northern part of the country to work in railway construction, the building trade or the textile industry, or to complete an apprenticeship. Innsbruck becomes multilingual.
