The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari

TheCabinet of Doctor Caligari is about man's primal fears of supernatural dark forces to which he seems helplessly exposed. the silent film of the same name, with which Robert Wiene created a masterpiece of expressionism and which serves as a model for the musical, is 100 years old. In it, Wolfgang Sréter plays with people's longings in an eerily beautiful and blackly humorous way. The music by Toni Matheis and Raymund Huber quotes all genres, from fairground music to Latin American to melancholic ballads, creates 1920s atmosphere à la Kurt Weill and yet finds its own quirky style.
