German speaking theater: Dunkelheit

"My secret belongs to me", declares Edith Stein, who spent her life searching for "the truth". A search that made her a philosopher, women's rights activist, martyr and, after her murder in Auschwitz in 1942, a saint and patron saint of Europe. But how can such an incomprehensible life be dramatised, how can it be portrayed what made an initially "everyday" woman into a saint and role model? These are precisely the questions that a playwright and her accompanying dramaturge face, completely questioning their reception of Edith Stein. At the latest from the moment when it becomes clear that both world views and approaches are of a completely different nature, a fruitful outcome seems far away.
