Hommage to Ignaz Friedman

The Polish-Jewish pianist Ignaz Friedman (1882-1948) was one of the most important virtuosos of the first half of the 19th century. A master student of Theodor Leschetitzky in Vienna, he lived with his wife Marie von Shidlowsky, a great-granddaughter of the Russian national poet Leo Tolstoy, in Villa Friedman in Siusi allo Sciliar from 1930 to 1937. in 1939, he fled from the increasing reprisals to Australia, where he continued his career under different auspices. The Tyrolean pianist Marlies Nussbaumer will perform an evening in memory of the great pianist. This event is part of the exhibition "Hatred of Jews in Music - Continuities over the Centuries", which is on display at Haus der Musik until May 8.
