Lecture on the history of the Landhaus

Immediately after the "assumption of power", the National Socialists realised earlier plans to extend the historic Landhaus and erected a self-contained building complex in a very short time. In architecture and furnishings, they combined aspects typical of the region with representational forms of the Nazi canon. During the Nazi period, the government quarter housed almost the entire party apparatus and state offices. The planning and execution of countless Nazi crimes took place in the centre of power of Tyrolean National Socialism. After liberation and use by the occupying powers, Tyrolean politics took possession of today's New Landhaus. The Nazi background is denied and suppressed. It is only in the recent past that the province has taken on its cultural responsibility for remembrance and discussed how to deal with the largest remaining building of perpetrators in Tyrol.
