Wissen|schaf(f)t Gesundheit - "Does knowing my genes help me?"
"Wissen|schaf(f)t Gesundheit" is a series of lectures organized by the Medical University of Innsbruck. Doctors and researchers present the current state of research to an interested public in appealing lectures in an understandable way.
All people are unique - and this is not least due to the fact that we differ in our genes. In the more than 3 billion genetic letters of our genes, which are usually duplicated, 5 million letters are different in each of us than in the supposed "normal sequence". These differences are an important reason for how we are and look, how we feel, and which diseases we have or will get.
New research methods are making it increasingly easy to decode genetic material. We can read from it who our ancestors are, how we tolerate medication, whether we have an increased risk of cancer and much more. However, there are still more unanswered questions than definite answers. Whether genetic information helps us more or unsettles us more is an open question in each individual case. In his lecture, Johannes Zschocke, Director of the Institute of Human Genetics, will talk about the possibilities of genetic analysis in medicine and when genetic testing should be considered.
Free admission, no registration required, admission from 18:00 in the main lecture hall (Audimax).
The lecture can also be followed as a livestream.
