CALM & COLLECTED

We are kicking off the gallery's autumn programme with a special exhibition highlight featuring three outstanding positions in international contemporary art.
Adelheid Rumetshofer understands her painting as a dematerialisation and reduction of all formal means. Colour becomes the determining factor. Rumetshofer works in oil on canvas in glazed layers without any brushstrokes or bursts of colour. The resulting blurring dissolves contours into subtle condensations and opens up a diffuse interplay of surface and space of the highest quality. Her paintings thus elude any concept of representationalism or abstraction. Without any discernible reality, the pure aesthetics of colour can be experienced as the content of the image.
Hans Schüle studied sculpture and painting in Munich and Berlin and is in international demand as a steel sculptor. His work includes series in various scales, as well as monumental works in public spaces (Germany, Italy, Canada, USA, Asia). His formal language draws on both biomorphic and geometric forms. Schüle develops complex space-creating structures in which he explores artistic possibilities with the utmost precision of execution.
Douglas Witmer is an internationally renowned artist working in the field of geometric abstraction. Witmer's work reflects decades of engagement with the materiality of the painted object. His works are shown in exhibitions internationally and are documented in numerous publications. As an exclusive premiere, we are presenting the current series of “Schwarzweiß-Drawings” (Black and White Drawings) – small-format works in ink on handmade paper that capture landscapes in an associative and spontaneous manner.
