Dancing Miners – Tanzperformance

The interdisciplinary cultural association NikiMartin (Austria) and the Bermuda Dance Company (South Korea) present their performance Dancing Miners, which will premiere in Austria on October 18, 2025, at BRUX Freies Theater Innsbruck and continue on October 23, 2025, at DAS OFF THEATER Vienna.
Six dancers from Austria and South Korea transform the shared histories of Austrian salt mining and Korean coal mining into a powerful contemporary dance performance.
Dancing Miners unites diverse cultural perspectives and reflects on the role of mining in shaping landscapes, communities, and collective memories. Through movement, sound, and embodied storytelling, the performance reimagines the deep underground—once a site of labor and survival—as a space of connection, resilience, and intercultural dialogue.
The cultural association NikiMartin, founded by Nikola Majtanova and Marcin Denkiewicz, and the Bermuda Dance Company, a collective led by choreographer Jiwoo Hong, have joined forces for Dancing Miners. Following its successful premiere in South Korea in August 2025, the work is now being presented in Austria. The collaboration brings together NikiMartin’s strongly physical partnering with Bermuda Dance Company’s engagement with current issues and innovative movement language. The project unites dancers from different genres who communicate universally through dance. This partnership merges their distinct artistic visions into a performance that is both physically powerful and conceptually layered, leaving a profound impact on the audience.
