The jazz and improvised music department of the Tyrolean State Conservatory presents jazz in a variety of line-ups.

You might have to play bass!

The bass guitar is played in funk and soul with a special technique. The inventor of the slap technique, in which the strings are struck with the thumb, is bassist Larry Graham. He claims to have invented it by chance in the sixties.

In the band Sly & The Family Stone, he popularized this sound, setting in motion a development that he could never have foreseen. Generations of bassists continued to develop the technique and sometimes took it to the extreme.
