Jazz at the HDM: John Arman Quartet

With “Update,” guitarist and composer John Arman presents new compositions for jazz quartet. The program forms the basis of his fourth album under his own name, set for release in 2026, and continues his ongoing exploration of contemporary straight-ahead jazz. Characteristic features include clearly defined forms, melodic conciseness, and a deliberate approach to improvisational openness.

In addition to his own projects, John Arman performs as a guitarist in various ensembles and regularly collaborates with musicians both domestically and abroad. Mátyás Bartha (piano), Danny Ziemann (double bass), and Christian Salfellner (drums) have formed the Mátyás Bartha Trio for several years, with whom they have performed numerous concerts and released several recordings. These projects also include a collaboration with the internationally renowned tenor saxophonist Scott Robinson. Their long-standing experience playing together shapes a confident, swinging, and energetic ensemble sound that gives the compositions room for development and musical dialogue.
