listening closely 2024

A celebration of music. Listening closely aims to show the entire spectrum of what is contained in the small word "new". A world premiere by a young Austrian composer fits perfectly into a concert with modern greats such as Britten and Shostakovitch; Beethoven in his original sound renews our perception of Viennese classical music; youngsters on the podium present new interpretations of works ... In the end, new is more a feeling than a label; newness results from unusual connections, from the original interplay of various factors (including the space in which the music is performed). Curated by Tyrolean composer and pianist and long-time festival director Thomas Larcher, listening closely is musical slow food away from the mainstream. A celebration of music - high-calibre, personal, extravagant, low-threshold.

"When 1000 ears open at a concert, 500 different pieces are heard." Thomas Larcher
