NUNZIO DE MARTINO & PATRIC SANDRI - Layer by Layer

With Nunzio De Martino (Naples/ITA) and Patric Sandri (Zurich/CH), we are presenting two internationally renowned artists from our gallery programme in a joint duo exhibition as part of Gallery Weekend Tirol. In their work, both artists explore the possibilities of abstract painting and search for new ways of interpretation, also in terms of technique and material. Nunzio De Martino swaps his brush for a mechanical sewing machine and develops complex structures with endless networks of lines and curves in a musical rhythm. He organises the picture surface associatively by means of condensed lines, splitting up the background or collage-like superimpositions. In Patric Sandri's work, the object-like and materiality play a central role in the design of the picture. Colour and image carrier are detached from the supposed obligations of painting and redefined. Coloured and transparently overlaid polyester fabric strips and reflections make the front and back of his object-like paintings equally important.
