Screen & Score: Smetana – My Fatherland
It was the musical testament of Czech national composer Bedřich Smetana and is one of the masterpieces of the Romantic tone poem genre. The cycleMy Fatherland spans a richly pictorial arc across the history and landscapes of Bohemia. The piano duo Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies – the latter having often conducted the original – will interpret it in their own way, transferring the many colors of the orchestra to the keyboard instrument. The Austrian classic from the Bohemian Forest, Adalbert Stifter, loved his homeland above all national borders and, with his monumental novel Witiko, created an epic about the old Kingdom of Bohemia, from which a significant excerpt will be heard. It will be exciting to see how Cori O'Lan will reflect these monuments of great literature in his contemporary visual language. An evening that brings together different arts from the past and present in dialogue.
