Intermission

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 38 in D major K. 504 Prague

Jean Baudrillard describes New York as "the city that is important for all other cities". In this program entitled Cityscapes, the TSOI is devoting itself to two works that deal with the American megacity in terms of sound: George Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F major was originally intended to be published under the name New York Piano Concerto. With the work Records from a Vanishing City by the contemporary composer Jessie Montgomery, this is contrasted with an almost 100-year-old exploration of their shared home city. Mozart's Symphony No. 38, on the other hand, bears the nickname Prague as a dedication to the metropolis of the Habsburg monarchy and an important place of activity for the composer. Mozart premiered this work during a trip to the city in 1787, from which he returned with the commission for Don Giovanni.

The conductor of this Symphony Concerto No. 6 is Holly Hyun Choe, who has made a name for herself with captivating programs that she has performed with major orchestras. A particular focus of her artistic work is the promotion of female composers. The soloist is Anton Gerzenberg, an up-and-coming pianist who has been at the forefront of the international classical music scene for a number of years drÃand is holding a residency at the Wiener Konzerthaus this season.
