6th Symphony Concert - One Thousand and One Nights

French composer Adrien Perruchon returns to the TSOI for the second time and, together with the musicians, delves into the dazzling world of Rimsky-Korsakov’sScheherazade. The Symphonic Suite from One Thousand and One Nights, Op. 35, is inspired by a folk tale about the young woman Scheherazade, who must tell stories to stay alive. With an enormously colorful orchestration, magnificent melodies with an oriental flair, and rousing rhythms, the composer created a fascinating and imaginative orchestral work.

Mélanie Boni’s impressionistic pieces, marked by Oriental influences and dedicated to legendary women such as Salome and Ophelia, build upon the vivid imagery of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade . The exceptionally gifted student of the famous French composer César Franck studied alongside Claude Debussy at the Paris Conservatory and was among the most respected female composers in France in the period before World War I.

Pablo de Sarasate’s fiery and virtuosicCarmen Fantasy for solo violin and orchestra leads us to another famous female figure in opera literature; with this piece, the Spaniard once astonished the masses. In Innsbruck, the young Brazilian Guido Sant’Anna will showcase these acrobatic feats on the violin; he has been thrilling the concert world with his mature playing and charisma. In the 2024–2025 season, he made his debut at the Young Euro Classic Festival at the Konzerthaus Berlin and appeared as a soloist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the Bregenz Festival, among others.
