7th Symphony Concert - Contrasts

The concert opens with Britten’s *Simple Symphony*, performed by the TSOI string section. The *Simple Symphony*, a retrospective on Britten’s own compositions from his childhood, unfolds into a multifaceted piece of music full of wit and sophistication. The renowned Tyrolean composer Johannes Maria Staud also takes a look back, so to speak, in Segue. However, what initially seems like very familiar Mozart-esque sounds eventually evolves into something entirely unique. Staud plays with expectations, forms, and timbres, creating music that connects the past and present in a fascinating way.
The work is performed by Tyrolean cellist Valerie Fritz. Known for her love of experimentation, the young cellist has previously appeared at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and Klangspuren Schwaz; in the 2025–2026 season, she will perform as an ECHO Rising Star in Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.
Finally, as a contrast, Mozart in his purest form! With his last symphony, the“Jupiter” Symphony —modern for its time and timeless in its impact—he once again achieved a stroke of genius.
