8th Symphony Concert

The TSOI’s symphonic season finale takes listeners on a journey from German Romanticism through the Viennese Classical period to 20th-century Russian ballet music. The concert evening opens with the overture to Carl Maria von Weber’s *Oberon*, his final stage work, which premiered in London. The overture takes up central leitmotifs from the opera and combines romantic timbres with Weber’s characteristic artistry in creating dramatic effects.

Once again, the spotlight falls on Beethoven in the anniversary year 2027, a composer who decisively shaped the development of numerous genres, not least the concert form. His Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58, is considered particularly innovative and reflects the transition from classical tradition to Romantic expressiveness. Elisabeth Leonskaja, a grande dame among pianists and an internationally renowned interpreter of Beethoven, will perform the work in memory of the great master in the Saal Tirol.

With excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, the TSOI, under the baton of Chief Conductor Ainārs Rubiķis, will once again perform with a full orchestra at the season’s final symphony concert. The music ranks among the most significant ballet compositions of the 20th century and combines lyrical intimacy, dramatic tension, and orchestral richness to create a captivating musical narrative of Shakespeare’s tragedy.
