Academie concert: A baroque...

Midori Seiler, a shining star on the early music scene, leads a captivating concert of Baroque masterpieces with her enchanting violin. Italian string culture, rooted in the Renaissance, and creative instrument making, not only in Cremona and Venice, had reached a unique peak at the time. Successful composers and maestri such as Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi were themselves virtuoso violinists and wrote their many "concerti" of all kinds full of wit, joie de vivre and sometimes with surprising foreshadowings of the classical period. Even north of the Alps, their pieces became known and played very quickly, often just a few weeks after they were written - and without the internet. Johann Sebastian Bach's diverse œuvre is an ingenious synthesis of the European music of his time. In addition, the Magdeburger Meister in Hamburg, Georg Philipp Telemann, wrote music that is often just as innovative and simply great fun.
