Ball at the Savoy
A glittering evening at the Grand Hotel, a dazzling display of music and emotion: With *Ball im Savoy* (Ball at the Savoy), Paul Abraham created one of the most brilliant revue operettas of his time in 1932. Dazzling, irreverent, and rhythmically electrifying, the work tells the story of the wealthy aristocrat Aristide and his newlywed wife Madeleine, who find themselves caught in a whirlwind of misunderstandings, jealousy, and romantic entanglements. Masquerades, false identities, and wounded pride drive the plot forward until it becomes clear that love and trust deserve a second chance even in the modern age.
The Hungarian-born composer combines the elegance of classical operetta with the pulsating sound of modernity: Charleston, foxtrot, cosmopolitan timbres, and symphonic brilliance merge into music that remains captivating to this day. Behind the glamour, however, unfolds a pointed drama about love, trust, and the art of resisting temptation. For this reimagining of the masterpiece, director and five-time winner of the coveted BR Operettenfrosch award Christian von Götz makes his debut at the Tiroler Landestheater. Celebrated for his energetic, meticulously composed productions, he now turns his attention to the fascinating world of Abraham. Together with the TLT ensemble, von Götz makes *The Savoy* shine in new splendor, presenting a panopticon of sophisticated globetrotters, charming con artists, and lovers who walk a tightrope between mistaken identity and temptation.
