The Twin Lottchen

There is probably no other children’s book that has been retold and adapted as often as Erich Kästner’s *Das doppelte Lottchen*. What an incredible story it is: At summer camp, two girls who don’t know each other come face to face and are astonished to discover that they look exactly alike! That’s enough to make anyone suspicious—and the two of them certainly are… How is that even possible, since Luise is from Vienna and Lotte from Munich? The two, who share not only their appearance but also their birthday, quickly solve the mystery: After their parents’ separation, everything was divided fairly—including the twins; Luise was to go to Dad and Lotte to Mom. Only adults could come up with such out-of-touch ideas. So now it’s time for the twins to take the reins—because how wonderful would it be to finally have a mom?! Or a dad?! Since the two lack neither imagination nor courage, they decide to switch roles. And so what began so unexpectedly at summer camp continues at home: a fast-paced comedy of mistaken identity for the whole family!
