Images of women from the 16th and 17th centuries are at the centre of the concert by the ensemble Oni Wytars: on the one hand, the worldly woman, who stands for love and passion as an object of desire, but also as an active subject in a wide variety of roles from innocent girl to demonic old woman; on the other hand, the heavenly woman as an unattainable ideal, also as a chaste and pure object of desire, but on a transcended, sublimated level. As always with this unmistakable ensemble, which we have had the honour of welcoming several times as part of our concert series, the spheres of art music and traditional music intermingle. But are there any clear boundaries? With Oni Wytars, they are artfully blurred and dissolved; above all, the focus is on a captivating and infectious cross-genre passion for music-making. The musicians in the ensemble are masters of several instruments, including many folk instruments from the Mediterranean region. Nothing stands in the way of a varied listening experience.
