Women in the resistance Struggle for recognition

Irena Bokiewicz was the grandniece of Polish General Bolesław Wieniawa-Długoszowski. In 1942, she joined the newly formed 2nd Polish Army Corps under General Władysław Anders in Persia.
However, she became famous as the foster mother of the legendary soldier bear Wojtek, who later became a symbol of courage and solidarity among Polish soldiers. But who was this woman? What led her to Persia—and how did her life unfold?
The Tyrolean state scholarship holder is investigating these questions in the project "Irene auf den Spuren von Irena" (Irene in the footsteps of Irena).
