JIRI MAYER - Size doesn't matter, they say

Jiri Mayer describes his painting as an attempt to bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood. The unbiased, fresh gaze of a child forms his starting point, which he tries to trace and artistically transfer. The leitmotif of his work are depictions of animals, which he reduces to the essentials of a child's drawing and realises in acrylic on canvas. His characteristic visual language of geometric pixelation immediately brings him into direct relation with the highly technologised present. When developing his motifs, however, Mayer also looks back and uses a program that originates from the “childhood” of digitalisation: Windows Paint - a completely outdated image programme that results in the pixelation of lines and surfaces at higher resolution or zoom. He also remains true to his concept of simplicity in the translation to the canvas and reduces the colour palette used to a few, strong hues.
