Career development of women* in professorships in the health professions

Caroline Haupt, BSc, MA
Doctoral candidate, Medical University of Innsbruck, research assistant at Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz, teaching speech therapist, University Medical Center Mainz, Mainz, Germany
The lecture on "Career Development of Women* in Professorships in the Health Professions" highlights gender differences on the path to a professorship in healthcare. We discuss key concepts such as the leaky pipeline, glass ceiling, and care penalty, present empirical data on gender distribution, and analyze structural barriers such as fixed-term contracts, mobility requirements, and non-transparent appointment procedures. Historical developments, intersectional perspectives, funding instruments, and examples of good practice will be critically evaluated. The aim is to identify opportunities for action at the individual, institutional, and political levels and to discuss how equal opportunities and participation can be strengthened in the long term.
