KLAVIER & CO: Prokofiev...

Sergei Prokofiev's piano sonatas are undoubtedly among the most important cycles of piano sonatas in the modern era. In these pieces, as in all his works, the Russian composer proved that musical progress is just as possible within the framework of tonality as it is to achieve unmistakable originality. Prokofiev's stylistic development can also be traced in the impressivedrunine sonatas. Of course, he also began as a Romantic following in the footsteps of Tchaikovsky and yet developed his own creativity as early as his youthful op. 1. Later, he, who greatly admired Joseph Haydn, whose playful spirit and acerbic wit were akin to his soul, discovered the world of Viennese Classicism, which he reformulated as it were; you can call this neoclassicism or neoclassicism, it is simply unmistakable Prokofiev. Above all, it is the rousing motor skills that characterized his style in his mature years. However, it cannot be ignored that this gifted rhythmist was also a fine melodist with a thoroughly Slavic soul. Two great pianists of our time, Alexey Zuev, who works at the Salzburg Mozarteum, and the Finn Olli Mustonen, will share this cycle.
