MAGDALENA FRAUENBERG

Magdalena Frauenberg (born 1996, Austria) combines feminist perspectives with a poststructuralist visual language in which cultural symbols appear not as fixed meanings but as fluid, historically conditioned constructs. Her installations, photographs and video works draw on regional iconography, art-historical references and material artefacts to question attributions of femininity. Memory, body and cultural signs enter into an open relationship with one another, in which visibility is always permeated by absence. It is precisely in this tension that an image space emerges that does not so much explain as shift, connect and make things readable in new ways.
