In a magnificent Baroque palace, a man named X (Giorgio Albertazzi) encounters an elegant woman named A (Delphine Seyrig) and tries to convince her that they met here a year earlier to start a new life together. As he confronts her with fragments from the past, she can’t remember anything. Wasn’t it last year in Marienbad? Is her memory correct? Or are these dreams, fantasies? Last Year at Marienbad (L’année dernière à Marienbad) made history: in 1961, the film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival; two years later, it was nominated for Best Film at the British Academy Film Awards.
