Lecture series - Public and global health perspectives for people with disabilities

Prof. Dr.Sabine Ludwig, MSc, MA
Professor of Diversity in Medicine, Director of the Institute for Diversity in Medicine, Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, founder of Women in Global Health Germany, member of Women in Global Health Austria
Health equity is an essential component of the United Nations' sustainable development agenda and universal health coverage. A recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that people with disabilities die around 20 years earlier than people without disabilities, have around twice the risk of developing diabetes, stroke or depression and are up to six times more likely to report barriers to accessing healthcare. These aspects will be addressed and the challenges for global health will be discussed alongside the Austrian and European context. The WHO's Rehabilitation 2030 initiative will be discussed as well as aspects and measures of the International Disability Alliance.
