The Rocky Horror Show
Janet and Brad could never have imagined where a little "jump to the left" would lead them. How could they have known that the castle at whose gates the newly engaged couple knocks after a nighttime flat tire would turn out to be the alien-queer parallel world of a narcissistic and latently violent autocrat?
The boss of this illustrious society from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy Transylvania is Frank'n'Furter, a mad scientist with considerable sex appeal. Thanks to him, Janet and Brad are able to question some of their heteronormative narrow-mindedness, at least. Good for them! But how does Rocky, created in the best Frankenstein tradition, feel about the role Frank'n'Furter has assigned him as a sex object? How long will Magenta, Riff Raff, and the other castle dwellers be content to cheer Frank'n'Furter on and dispose of body parts for him?
The Rocky Horror Show began as a risky venture on a small studio stage and was initially a commercial flop at the box office. From day one, however, it was and remains a home and a celebration for the queer community. As is so often the case, the so-called mainstream took a little longer to catch on—but then embraced the musical and film all the more enthusiastically, adding them to the canon of absolute cult classics. Fifty (!) years after the release of the cinema version, the Landestheater is once again saying: Let's do the time warp again!
By the way: The Rocky Horror Show has always been about an active audience! We're looking forward to that too. Please note the following information.
Transylvanian or Tyrolean, in suspenders or traditional jacket, in drag, in evening gown or jogging pants: come as you feel comfortable and respect how others feel comfortable!
Laughing, crying, gasping, shouting, dancing along—we welcome anything that expresses our shared joy! Props such as newspapers, rubber gloves, party hats, or small flashlights are welcome – however, for reasons of sustainability and out of respect for our beautiful hall, other attendees, and our cleaning staff, we ask that you refrain from splashing water and throwing rice, confetti, or any other objects, and that you do not use lighters or sparklers. Food is also better kept at home than in the theater hall.
When leaving the auditorium, please take everything you brought with you and leave your seat as you found it. Thank you for your consideration and here's to legendary evenings!
