How the Digital is Changing the Theatre

Digitalization has found its way into the theater, and not just since the Covid-19 pandemic. How has theater changed in the wake of these technological developments? What creative possibilities does digital technology open up for the theater? How are digital technologies used? What contribution can theater make to critically questioning digital innovations?

The panelists will discuss these questions from practical, academic and artistic perspectives.

Participants
Heidi Liedke & Monika Pietrzak-Franger (University of Frankfurt and University of Vienna, researching 'viral theater')
Cyrielle Garson (Université d'Avignon, expert on virtual reality in theater)
Sarah Milena Rendel (theater and film director)
Felix Tenhaef (University of Innsbruck, Institute for Art History, expert on video games and autobiography)

Moderation
Dorothee Birke & Anja Hartl (Institute for English Studies, University of Innsbruck)

The panel discussion takes place as part of the conference Theatre in the Digital Age at the University of Innsbruck and is organized by the Department of English Studies. The event will be held in English.
