Root, crepe and silk - exhibition

Hanna Battisti
'My works tell of small treasures in nature. I combine the discovery and visualisation of delicate structures of roots and insects with research in the field of plant botany and the biology of amphibians, insects and invertebrates. I am concerned with biodiversity, which is threatened by human interference with the balance of nature and the resulting global warming. The beauty and transience of our endangered planet and fragile life touch me deeply. I find inspiration in my own garden, in the local forests and mountains, in botanical gardens, in natural history museums, in aquariums and planetariums. I find important sources of inspiration in the philosophy of mindfulness in Eastern and Western wisdom teachings, such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Tibetan Buddhism.'

'Looking outwards and looking inwards – they are not different. As human beings, we are reflected in the world and the things that affect us and continuously change us, even if we don't notice it. We all have more than one face. And we are not marginal observers, but share the constant movement, the coming and going, with our bodies, our thoughts and our language. Like everything that exists, linguistic expression also decays when the focus on it fades. Texts break on the tongue, thoughts often come to an abrupt halt.'
