Mountains as far as the eye can see: Innsbruck offers an extraordinary backdrop. Located between the Nordkette and Patscherkofel mountains, the topography not only shapes the cityscape, but also the acoustics of the city. The mountain ranges amplify the constant roar of the Inntal motorway, on which around 28 million vehicles generated a steady background noise in 2024.

The composition Resonance IBK for electric bass, electronics, field recordings, and four trombones draws on sound recordings made simultaneously on both sides of the Inn Valley near Innsbruck. The title refers to the phenomenon of resonance, which is explored in the composition both sonically and conceptually. Environmental sounds relate to space, architecture, and people. Hannes Strobl, Mike Daliot, and Christof Dienz—all of whom grew up in Innsbruck and were influenced by its sound environment—bring their experience as musicians, composers, and sound researchers to the project.
