How do theological narratives shape our understanding of disability and healing? Based on a cultural concept of disability, the lecture will examine selected theological perspectives on the body, deviation and normality and analyze the extent to which church practices and theological patterns of interpretation contribute to the construction of "disability": be it through deficit-oriented interpretations or through seemingly positive narratives that nevertheless (re-)produce othering and ableism. These traditions will be contrasted with newer theological approaches that have recently emerged in the context of disability studies and formulate other questions about dis/ability and healing. Finally, we will discuss how religious faith can be a resource in this context.
