Weavers of the Tides by Sofía Rodríguez Fernández

Weavers of the tides

Watercolor exhibition by Sofía Rodríguez Fernández

The tides are elemental, unpredictable rhythms that defy measurement. There is not a single drop of water in the ocean that is not aware of the mysterious forces that create the tides and reacts to them. When we think of tides, we first imagine the tides of the ocean, but the word “tide” has many meanings. There are terrestrial tides, periodic changes in the earth's crustal structure caused by the same forces that create ocean tides. Atmospheric tides are similar to oceanic tides, but are caused by temperature fluctuations. There are tides that refer back to a similar rise and fall of an internal wave. Tides also play a role in the changes of celestial bodies. We are therefore talking about cosmic interactions. An essential and untamed movement that connects us with the stars. Every living being is connected to its world by many threads that weave the complex tapestry of life, and the rhythms of the tides show us the infinite interaction of this process, where there is no immutable rule to predict it. But we have separated ourselves from this connection.

Time, as marked by clocks, destroys the diversity of synchronicities that permeate us and reduces us to routine rhythms that engulf us. Their monotony numbs us, insists on strictly regulated days and disrupts biorhythms, preventing us from finding our compass. Everything is characterized by a deep disorder from which we have long remained separated. The imposed order masks this deep disorder, it has turned us into passive receptors, into obsessive instruments. But we have the memory of the future and the past, the intuition. We can remember how to anticipate and experience the movement of the tides and thus experience our own elemental interrelationships. Let us allow our creative spirit to connect with the tides. We can open a creative spiral of time, the one where the muses weave.
